“I have been ‘starting a diet every Monday morning’ for like 3 years now.”–DOES THIS SOUND LIKE YOU?
It’s officially December and I don’t know about you, but all I’m hearing (like every year at this time) is ANNOYING “diet talk” and then those pesky “new year’s resolutions” that quickly follow 🤦🏻♀️. It makes me SO AGGRAVATED and ANGRY that media, society and the “new year” increase dieting and diet talk even more and make people feel like they are worthless and/or not good enough as they are.
It is so easy to get sucked into thinking that ‘just this one time, this new diet is going to work. I mean, it “says” I can lose 10 lbs in 20 days…’
You fall victim to this because you want to believe that the answers you seek to validate yourself lie outside of your own power. That is the way diets work. It’s all about how following this plan is going to “change you” or “make you better”. It is about stripping away your power and making you feel like you aren’t worthy as you are.
I love this quote by yung pueblo- “A real sign of progress is when we no longer punish ourselves for our imperfections.” Dieting (in all its forms) is the ULTIMATE PUNISHMENT we inflict on ourselves for not measuring up to what society tells us is the ideal body type.
I am all about working towards your goals, to better yourself, improve your health, find food/body freedom, etc., and I want to support you in that–and will!. But, true and lasting change comes from my work to help reframe and change the way you talk to yourself, how you look at yourself and what you think about yourself. It is a practice but you can learn it. Because you see, if you find yourself continuously saying things like “I’ll never be good enough, thin enough, fit enough, etc.” you are ALWAYS going to remain stuck. And be unhappy. And then that dieting talk and those new year’s resolutions seem like a good idea and fall victim to them once again. Which then ONCE AGAIN leaves you feeling like a failure because DIETS DO NOT WORK.

Indeed I started today in my favorite way–a quick yet effective 30 minute workout from my living room. The hardest part was choosing what to do from the 600+ options I have! I settled on PiYO and the pilates/yoga mix was exactly what my body needed. I feel great and ready to tackle today!
